Acid Techno legend Aaron Liberator Reviews Braingravy Records 003

You got to hand it to Steve Mills, the boy really knows his acid techno beans and has delivered yet another master-class release on his Braingravy record label. If like me you like rebel rousing 303s, cheeky samples and throbbing bass lines, then look no further than this 3 track e.p. still pressed on 12″ vinyl.

First up Mr Mills teams up with the legendary duo that is Chris Liberator and D.a.v.e. The Drummer for the mind melting old-school flavoured “303 Pirates”, with its tongue firmly in cheek for a fingers up to the world of rock music. Next up on “Acid Underground” the main man goes solo for what he does best, which is a rolling, relentless and trouser rustling dose of 303 heaven. If this is not enough and already has this reviewer sweating we have the mighty Tik Tok, one of the best and original producers in the scene and my current favourite to boot. On “That’s Got To change” Tik Tok brings a highly polished sound to the table but does not hold back the acid for a moment.

A truly classic release……. miss this at your peril!!!

Acid Techno legend Aaron Liberator Reviews Braingravy Records 002

It’s great to see another new acid techno vinyl record label on the scene as they are getting few and far between and trust me this label is going to be a collectable classic. The first release on Steve Mills’s Braingravy label sold real quick and I expect the same for this fabdabadozy release.

Sterling Moss & Steve Mills – Electric LandLady

Taking you down a dark alleyway for a bit of illegal hanky panky, Electric Landlady from Moss and Mills is a real dirty and sweaty affair of groping 303s and butt pinching beats and bass.
There is real evil twist to this track and is one of the best to come out Mr Moss’s superb North London based studio.

Rene Reiter- 18 Year Old Cat On Acid

If you think giving your cat (who happens to be 18 years old) acid is a good idea as suggested in the title of Rene Reiter’s flip side track for this release, then you like him are probably a little unhinged which makes you an ideal acid techno fan and certainly qualified to listen to this quality nu school styled slice of 303 excellence.

OB1 – We Will Get Fooled Again

Bristol based OB1 has many great releases under his belt and I think for me this is the best so far, a slow burning builder not unlike what you would find on a classic Stay Up Forever release.
A cheeky little number and a perfect way to finish off this storming e.p.

Thank the gods!! We have a new 12” vinyl label to add to the bastion of great labels and releases that have been heralding in the new renaissance of acid techno, with a standout first release, things are looking good for Steve Mills’s Braingravy. After listening to the a side track  “Powerful Substance” from Steve Mills, Chris Liberator and Sterling Moss, you’ll be wishing you had some powerful substances as this monster acid techno number puts you right in the peak of the party thanks to a “teeth grinding” acid riff and big stompy beats. I loved “Disco Shit” on the b; the unrelenting acid lines drive it like a teenager in a stolen car, and shows that Mr Mills is no slouch in the studio. Finishing off “Dual Core” from Austrian producers DJ Triplex and Zellkern adds something a little different, I liked this but like a lot of European acid techno it can take a while before it really sinks in. Over all a must have release as it’s getting harder and harder to find quality acid techno on vinyl. If you like this as much as I do it will be in your record bag for a long time.
